If the igniter for your grill stops working it doesn't have to ruin your barbecue plans. All of our gas grills can be lit manually in the event that you want to use the grill before a solution to the ignition system issue can determined.

GENESIS, GENESIS II, GENESIS II LX, & SUMMIT MODELS
To manually light a Genesis, Genesis II, Genesis II LX, or Summit model, use the following instructions, or reference your owner’s manual.
- Open the lid.
- Make sure ALL burner control knobs are turned off. Check by pushing the control knobs in and turning them clockwise until they stop.
- Turn on the gas supply to the grill.
- Put a match in the match holder and light the match.
- Insert the match holder, with lit match, down through the cooking grates, past the Flavorizer Bars and adjacent to the left burner (pictured below).
- Push the left control in and turn it to START/HI to igniter the left burner. Check that the flame is lit by looking through the cooking grates. You should see a flame.
- Repeat steps 4 through 6 for the remaining burners. If any of the burners fails to ignite during the lighting process, within five seconds, stop, turn the burner control knob to OFF and wait five minutes to allow the gas to clear before you try again.
SPIRIT & SPIRIT II MODELS
For a Spirit or Spirit II model, use the following instructions, or reference your owner's manual.
- Open the grill lid.
- Make sure ALL burner control knobs are turned off. Check by pushing the control knobs in and turning them clockwise until they stop.
- Turn on the gas supply to the grill.
- Put a match in the matchstick holder and light the match.
- Insert the matchstick holder with lit match down through the cooking grates, past the Flavorizer Bars and to the burner (pictured below).
- Push burner control knob 1 (the far left control knob) in and turn it counterclockwise to the START/HI position. Check that the flame is lit by looking through the cooking grates. You should see a flame.
- After burner 1 is lit, you can turn on burner 2 (and burner 3, if applicable). If any of the burners fails to ignite during the lighting process, within five seconds, stop, turn the burner control knob to OFF and wait five minutes to allow the gas to clear before you try again.
Q MODELS
For a Q model, use the following instructions, or reference your owner's manual.
- Open the grill lid.
- Unfold the side tables (if present on your specific model).
- Make sure the burner control knob is turned to the off position. Check by pushing the burner control knob in and turning it clockwise until it stops.
- Confirm that the cylinder is properly installed, if using a disposable LP cylinder with your model.
- Strike a match and put the flame under the match-light hole (pictured below).
- While holding the lit match, push the burner control knob in and turn it counterclockwise to the start/high position.

Check that the burner is lit by looking through the cooking grates. You should see a flame. If the burner(s) fails to ignite during the lighting process, within five seconds, stop, turn the burner control knob to OFF and wait five minutes to allow the gas to clear before you try again.
