Weber cooking accessories come in two shapes, and almost all confusion about what fits comes from mixing them up. This article explains both systems, how they work together, and how to tell which one your barbecue uses.
The two systems
Gourmet BBQ System (GBS)
GBS is the round drop-in system. A GBS cooking grate has a removable circular section in the middle, and GBS grillware drops straight into that opening. If your cooking grate has a visible round cut-out in the centre, you have GBS.
GBS grillware includes the griddle, sear grate, poultry roaster, Dutch oven duo, glazed pizza stone, grill and griddle, and wok and steamer.
Weber CRAFTED
CRAFTED is a frame system. A CRAFTED frame kit sits in one side of the cookbox in place of a cooking grate, and CRAFTED grillware sits on the frame. CRAFTED grillware is larger and square, and includes the sear grate, glazed pizza stone, griddle and grilling basket.
The three things people usually get wrong
1. GBS is not just for charcoal
GBS is available across the range, including gas barbecues. Spirit and Genesis both take GBS grillware, and have done for many years. It is not a charcoal-only system.
2. The two systems work together
GBS grillware fits inside a CRAFTED frame kit.
You are not choosing one system over the other. If you fit a CRAFTED frame, you can use both the large square CRAFTED grillware and the smaller round GBS grillware on it. Buying a CRAFTED frame does not make your existing GBS accessories redundant.
What does not work is the reverse: large square CRAFTED grillware needs the frame, so it will not sit in a GBS grate opening on its own.
3. Your fuel type does not decide it
Which system you can use depends on your specific model and its generation, not on whether you cook with gas, charcoal, pellets or electricity. There are charcoal barbecues that take CRAFTED grillware and gas barbecues that do not. Always check your own model.
Which system does my barbecue use?
This is the general picture. Check your own model against the article for your range, or use the compatibility checker, before buying anything.
| Range | Round GBS grillware | Large square CRAFTED grillware |
| Spirit | Most generations, from before 2016 | From Spirit 2022 onwards |
| Genesis | Most generations, from before 2016 | Genesis 2022 to 2024, and Genesis 2026 |
| Summit | Yes | Summit from 2024 |
| Charcoal kettles and Kamado | Yes | Master-Touch 67cm only |
| Pellet | SmokeFire EX and EPX | SmokeFire EPX only |
| Electric | Selected models | Selected models |
Frame kits are not universal
There is more than one CRAFTED frame kit and they are not interchangeable. One fits Spirit and pellet barbecues, another fits Genesis, and Summit from 2024 uses the Genesis kit. Ordering the wrong frame kit is a common and avoidable mistake.
Some of the newest barbecues support CRAFTED grillware without a separate frame kit being listed.
How to tell what you have, by looking
| If your barbecue has... | You have... | What fits |
| A cooking grate with a round removable centre section | GBS | Round GBS grillware, and you can also add a CRAFTED frame kit if one is available for your model |
| A CRAFTED frame kit fitted | CRAFTED | Large square CRAFTED grillware and round GBS grillware |
| A plain one-piece cooking grate | Neither, as standard | Accessories that sit on top of the grate. You may be able to add a CRAFTED frame kit or a GBS grate |
Common questions
Can I use both systems on the same barbecue?
Yes, if your barbecue takes a CRAFTED frame kit. Round GBS grillware fits inside the frame, so both work on the same barbecue.
Can I put a CRAFTED pizza stone into a GBS grate?
No. CRAFTED grillware is larger and square, and needs the frame. The GBS glazed pizza stone is the round equivalent that drops into a GBS grate.
Can I add either system to an older barbecue?
Often, yes. CRAFTED frame kits are available for Spirit going back well before 2016 and for Genesis II from 2016 onwards, and GBS cooking grates are available for many older models. Check your model rather than assuming an older barbecue is excluded.
My barbecue takes neither. What are my options?
You can still use accessories that sit directly on the cooking grates, such as rotisserie kits, griddle plates and pizza stones.
Are the accessories the same size?
No. CRAFTED grillware is larger and square and sits on the frame. GBS grillware is smaller and round and drops into the centre opening of a GBS grate.
Where do I buy accessories for my system?
On the Weber website for your country, or from your local Weber retailer. Search by your model or serial number so you only see accessories that fit.
One more thing worth knowing
You may also see CRAFTED cooking grates listed for your barbecue. These are cooking grates, not cookware, and they are a different product from the CRAFTED grillware described above. If two charts seem to disagree with each other, this is usually the reason.
How to check what fits, in three steps
- Find your serial number. It is on the data label on your barbecue. See the article on finding your serial number if you are not sure where to look.
- Use the Weber compatibility checker for your country, or the parts and accessories pages, and search using your model or serial number.
- If the checker does not resolve your model, or you get no results, contact us. Send one clear photo of the serial label and one wide photo of the whole barbecue and we will confirm exactly what fits.
Do not buy on the basis that an accessory looks like it should fit. Cooking grate dimensions, frame widths and cookbox sizes changed between generations, and an accessory from an earlier model in the same range will often not fit a later one.

A note on part numbers
Part numbers differ by region. The same accessory can carry a different number in another country, so always check the part number for your own market rather than one quoted on an overseas site or forum.
